This Thursday, July 20 we will be having our local (US) issue release party celebrating our Scottish Issue at Gritty’s Brew Pub here in Portland, Maine, but we will also be having an issue release party in Scotland, Friday 28^th July at 6.30pm, at Blackwell’s Bookshop. Prestigious American literary magazine celebrates Scottish poetry scene

Scottish literature continues to make an impact internationally with the news that the prestigious American literary journal The Café Review is publishing an issue devoted to Scottish poetry. Following an Irish edition of contemporary poets in Spring 2016, The Café Review’s editor Steve Luttrell approached Edinburgh Makar Christine De Luca to guest-edit a Scottish edition.

‘I wanted to include Scotland’s many voices, its languages and dialects, its performance as well as its page poets, and a balance of female to male poets,’ De Luca says. ‘The editor Luttrell was surprised at the range of voices. At one point, because of the need for versions in English for original poems in Gaidhlig and for some poems in Scots, it looked as if we would overrun and would have to cut down even further. Luttrell agreed we could have a ‘bumper edition’.’

The Scottish edition of The Café Society is published this month, with a Scottish launch on Friday 28^th July at 6.30pm, at Blackwell’s Bookshop, 53-59 South Bridge, Edinburgh EH1 1YS.  The editor Steve Luttrell is flying over from Maine and twenty of the contributors from as far afield as Orkney and Galloway will read. Poets include Glasgow Poet Laureate Jim Carruth, former Edinburgh Makar Stewart Conn, and Neu Reekie frontman Michael Pedersen.
