Summer Morning Sunset District
By Daisy Zamora
Overcast sky dissolves in pale light
on the row of spruce trees
— their round, feathery heads
closely knitted like a green cloud.
Hundreds of little windows stare across the street
from the endless rest home walls.
Last night’s rain shadow:
damp charcoal on the sidewalk.
A solitary homeless cart
sits empty in the silent shade.
